3e. Medicare Benefits

Medicare is a government-funded insurance plan that covers most common and approved cancer treatments for patients 65+, individuals with disabilities, and patients who have received SSDI for 2 years. Providers and patients can access the Medicare website, or call Medicare to check on coverage.

There are 4 parts to Medicare. Tap or hover over each icon to learn more.

Part A
Covers hospitalization, inpatient expenses, skilled nursing care, home health care and hospice
Part B
Covers visits with physicians, outpatient care, medical equipment, and some screening tests
Part C
Approved coverage plans from private companies with extra coverage for vision, hearing, dental, etc.
Part D
Also called the prescription drug benefit, this is optional coverage for prescription drugs.

With a Medicare plan, patients should check to see if their prescription drug plan covers non-infused medications. Examples of non-infused medications include oral, chemotherapy, medication, and hormone therapy.
